In the market nowadays two kinds of paints are widely available both for interior and exterior painting jobs and yes both have their own unique selling points. Oil based paints are thick paints with resins and oils. Latex or acrylic paints are thinner, water-based paints. Don’t know which paint will be apt for your next painting project? Acrylic paints are hugely in demand for they smell better than oil paints. Moreover, they dry quickly. On the other hand, oil paints last longer. The thick paint shields the surface and it is easier to wipe the surface if it gets stained. Oil based paints are ideal for the exteriors and provides protective shield against natural elements.

Oil being thicker and harder it is difficult to paint with oil. Also, it tends to bubble up when you apply it on the wall. Moreover, you need to clean the brush in paint thinner, which is not the case with acrylics. In the case of acrylics, brushes can be rinsed in plain water. Oil Paints are in fact harder to remove from skin as well. However, acrylics can stain your clothes, but it can be easily wiped off from your arm, face etc. Oil paints are also considered a hazardous waste.

People generally prefer to have their homes plastered in acrylics, given that the smell of acrylics is less toxic. However, no paint is safe for children, so children and adults should be exposed till the paint dries.

However, when planning to use oil or acrylics, ensure to prim interiors like doors and trim. A good primer helps paint last for longer time. Primer should be applied like a regular paint, or spray it.
