Business Cards: An important paper marketing tool

09/02/2012 23:44

A business card is a “small billboard” for your business, which carries an imprinted advertising message of one’s name and type of business they are engaged in. Business cards are the easiest marketing device to carry and distribute. They provide contact information and are extremely effective in getting lots of business for their namesakes. A business card is, in fact, a physical extension of our own egos. They have managed to exemplify every business that is conceivable by human intellect.

Today’s technology provides many variations on this old workhorse. With numerous vendors available to print business cards, it has become inexpensive to include color and raised lettering. Don’t take your business card for granted. There are many ways to maximize your message while minimizing your costs. At a minimum, your business card should include the following.

1. Your name

2. Company name

3. Business phone number

4. Cell phone number

5. Business address

6. E-mail address

7. Fax number

8. The URL for the company website

Business cards can be a challenge to design because you usually need to pack a lot of information into a small space. And the amount of information you put on a business card has been growing.

In addition to all the information listed above, here are some tips for designing your business card.

• Use a splash of color: Design your card in an attractive color that fits your company image. However, don’t use too many colors. You can put a simple, one or two color logo or company name in a colored font.

• Use both sides of the card: Rather than trying to cram all your contact information on one side of your business card, keep the front attractively simple and use the back for details. If you need even more space, use a folded business card format.

• Reprint rather than mark up: If you have to make a change to the information on your card, have new ones printed as soon as possible. Avoid trying to salvage the incorrect cards and save money by scratching out the incorrect information and manually writing the new information.

• Leave space for notes: Leave space on the reverse side of your business card for you or the recipient to write notes.

• Get your business card laminated to leave a better impression of your business.

Do not forget to put extra business cards where you need them. Store your cards in your wallet, car, briefcase, personal organizer and backpack so that you can minimize situations in which you are caught without extra business cards.
